Things to check out for when purchasing curtains that would
beautify your home
Dos
1. Conclude on what colour and pattern to use for
your curtains. They take up a large amount of visual space and would have a
huge impact on the look and feel of your room.
2. Consider what fabric is best for the purpose it
is being used for. Cotton is versatile and easy to clean; velvet is luxurious
and private but can be a bit heavy for some rooms. Dayblinds are light and
graceful but do not allow privacy.
3. Allocate prices well to your curtain fabric and
hardware in order not to spend more than you budgeted.
Don’ts
1. Don’t skimp on price. Curtains need to have
generous proportions. They should always be at least double the width of the
window, even if they are going to be drawn or open most of the time. It is very
essential that the curtains are long enough. For a rich elegant look they can
gather on the floor but they should never be any higher because they would look
truncated when they are too short.
2. Don’t hang curtains without ironing. Don’t
assume that the curtains will de-wrinkle. No!!! They would not de-wrinkle after
a few hours or days.
3. Don’t buy fabric without knowing the specific
size measurement. Use a tape to measure to evaluate the window in question.
4. Don’t mess around with fussy window treatments.
Fabrics that overwhelm with pattern will draw attention to itself and away from
a carefully thought out room design.
Quote of the week:
"Hang curtains, they make a room seem finished. Think of them as the lipstick of decorating."
